Coordination meeting of Mediterranean and Black Sea European projects
A 2-day workshop was held on June 13-14, 2013, in Athens, Greece, at the Hotel Divani Palace Acropolis. The main objectives were 1. to initiate a common ground of collaboration and synergies between ongoing Mediterranean and Black Sea environmental projects funded by the EC – DG-ENV within the FP7, but not exclusively, and 2. to increase awareness of activities and outputs within the marine and maritime strategy communities for these regions. The meeting was organized by Vangelis Papathanassiou, the PERSEUS scientific coordinator, and had to be attended by the coordinators or representatives of 18 projects (CLEANSEA, COCONET, CREAM, EMBLAS, Kill*Spill, JELLYRISK-MED, MARLISCO, MEDINA,MEDISEH, MEDSEA, MERMAID, MISIS, MYOCEAN2, STAGES, ODEMM, PEGASO, PERSEUS, ULIXES, VECTORS). The first day was devoted to short presentations to inform about main goals, methodology and upcoming research and dissemination activities of the projects. The rest of the workshop was focused on discussion and planning of project synergies, concrete common activities and collaboration strategies. Best practice for monitoring, research cruises, modeling capacities and results, stakeholder involvement, training issues etc. were topics considered during the meeting.
Common ground for project activities, training and monitoring and a common blog will all likely stimulate upcoming and fruitful collaboration.
