First records of the Round Fantail Stingray, Taeniura grabata (Chondrichthyes: Dasyatidae), off the Syrian coast (eastern Mediterranean)

The Round Fantail Stingray, Taeniura Grabata (E.Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1817), is known from off the West African coast from Mauritania to Angola and around the Sao Tiago and Cape Verde Islands (Capapé & Desoutter, 1990). It is reported from the central and southeastern Mediterranean (McEachran & Capapé, 1984), especially from southern Tunisia (Capapé, 1983; Bradaï et al., 2004). In recent suerveys, we collected three Round Fatain Stingrays from three different sites in Syria.
